Having whiter teeth has become the most common cosmetic dental procedure. Our system is non-invasive and under your control.

Is it best to whiten my teeth in office?

It’s hard for us to tell you what way to whiten your teeth is best, there are pros and cons to each system, you need to choose the system that best fits you. Whether you are buying a store kit, buying our office at home kit, or having the procedure done in office, all whitening products contain varying amounts of peroxide. The percentage of peroxide varies as do the side effects.

•  Over the counter, store bought whitening kits generally contain 3% peroxide. This will alter the color of your enamel if used consistently over a 1 to 2 week period depending on your use and color you are trying to achieve.
•  Dentist prescribed at-home whitening kits, contain anywhere from 3% to 20% peroxide. The variance will be decided on your needs based on your need. One of our dentists will want to be notified of your progress, you will be in control of frequency of treatment, most patients use this system daily for 3 to 4 days.
•  Dentist prescribed in office whitening kits are performed in a dentist chair, under our care. This process uses 15% to 43% peroxide, based on your needs and is done in about one hour.

What should I know about whitening my teeth?

There are some facts about whitening that patients may not understand before treatment.

Teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it will not whiten crowns, veneers, or dental fillings. To brighten composite filling, we can replace the filling material with new filling. restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Whitening your teeth is not permanent. Most patients find that they require a touch-up at least once a year to maintain the look that they want. Patients who smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine may find that they need to repeat this process more frequently.

Peroxide is not a solution to treat casually. Peroxide can burn your soft tissue and cause sensitivity to your teeth if applied inappropriately.

Why do people whiten their teeth?

Patients may desire to whiten their teeth for various reasons. This may include:

•  To even out the streaks caused due to fluorosis, which is caused from excessive fluoridation.
•  From normal use, the outer layer of your teeth is just not as bright or clean as you would like. Turn yellow or brown stains to whiter, brighter teeth.
•  To remove teeth stains due to medications including some antibiotics, antihistamines and anti-hypertension medications.
