Tooth Extraction in Seattle, WA
Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved using restorative measures. In these situations we recommend removal of the tooth in order to avoid pain and infection. Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that is damaged beyond repair, or positioned poorly, from its socket in the jawbone. We do not take this procedure lightly. At Crown Hill Dental Care we always want to try to save the tooth first, assuming the long-term prognosis is good.
Wisdom tooth extraction is a common procedure, and one that the majority of the population simply cannot avoid. Wisdom teeth are frequently problem teeth due to the fact that most people do not have large enough jaws to allow them to fully erupt into the mouth. We often see them impacted or malpositioned as a result of inadequate space. This predisposes them to cavities and periodontal problems. We refer most of our patients to an oral surgeon for this procedure, especially if sedation is requested.
Common reasons for tooth extractions
|•||The tooth has decayed beyond repair, an infection may or may not be present
|•||Teeth that are impacted and causing damage to an adjacent tooth and/or periodontal issues
|•||Teeth that are cracked or fractured beyond repair
|•||Strategic tooth removal prior to orthodontic treatment, typically your 1st bicuspids, to alleviate crowding|
