Dental Technology Seattle, WA
At Crown Hill Dental Care, we want you to be familiar with all of the tools that we find useful in dentistry. We use a lot of cutting edge technology to help in our efforts to bring your mouth to tip-top condition. This technology allows us to be more efficient with the use of our time, saving you money, and allowing us a much higher level of quality in our work.
Digital X-RaysX-rays are an integral part of a comprehensive dental exam as they allow us to see much more of your teeth than what is visible clinically. Digital x-rays produce less radiation than traditional film x-rays. Even so, dental x-rays in general expose the patient to minimal radiation, less than if you were to walk around downtown Denver for an afternoon. Frequency of X-rays depends on your dental history and decay risk. On average, we recommend updating your x-rays every 1-2 years.
The advantage that digital X-rays give us over standard X-ray equipment are manifold. As we mentioned, digital X-rays only expose you to a fifth of the radiation of a standard X-ray. Further, we don’t have to wait for the X-rays to develop. Think of digital X-rays the same way you think of digital cameras. As soon as we take the X-ray, it is rendered digitally and we can view it on a monitor. This allows us to share it with you immediately and let you see firsthand, in high definition, what issues are affecting your teeth.
Using these X-rays we are able to zoom in on specific areas of your teeth, to gain a better understanding of what is going on.
Intraoral CameraOur intraoral camera is great for taking close up pictures of your teeth to show you conditions needing treatment that you otherwise might not be able to see.
Let’s say you have a pocket behind the last molar on the left side of the upper arch of your jaw. This pocket seems to be catching food and we need to bring your attention to it. We could tell you about it and you might get a decent idea of what we are talking about, or you might not. We find that sharing a live image of a dental issue does a much better service to you than any explanation ever could.
Oral Cancer ScreeningAt every exam we will perform an oral cancer screen, in which we closely examine all soft tissue of the mouth and high risk areas such as the tongue for any changes in tissue morphology.
Using our digital X-ray technology, we are able to view not only teeth and bone but also soft tissue. We will always scan your mouth for signs of oral cancers, tumors, and cysts. We take this responsibility very seriously and will always alert you to anything that we find.
If you smoke or use tobacco product, that puts you at a much higher risk of oral cancer. Tobacco use also works against your general oral health quite a bit.
