Dental Hygiene

A Woman flossing her way to good Dental Hygiene in Seattle, WAProper dental hygiene is an important part of your oral and overall health. At Crown Hill Dental Care, we strive to help you maintain excellent oral hygiene. Drs. Walker, Drumhiller, Goll and O'Connor and the rest of our team are here to answer questions, provide a variety dental services, and help you maintain a beautiful and healthy smile.

Excellent oral hygiene is usually characterized by three aspects:

•  Teeth that are clean and free of food debris
•  Gums that are healthy, pink, and do not bleed easily when you floss
•  Lack of bad breath

Daily preventative care, such as proper brushing and flossing, can help stop dental problems before they start. However, regular checkups and professional cleanings are also an important part of your oral health. If you neglect your dental hygiene, you may need to receive restorative treatment. Whether you need preventive or restorative treatment, we are here to help!

Preventive Dentistry

The American Dental Association (ADA), strongly recommends you visit a dental professional at regular intervals. Crown Hill Dental Care typically recommends two visits per year. Patients who are at high risk for dental problems may need to visit Drs. Walker, Drumhiller, Goll and O'Connor more frequently.

During a regular checkup, Drs. Walker, Drumhiller, Goll and O'Connor will check for signs of decay and gum disease. Our dental hygienist will also perform a cleaning to remove plaque, tartar, and minor stains.

In between your visits with us, be sure to brush your teeth daily using a fluoride toothpaste that has been approved by the ADA. Daily flossing helps to remove debris out from the tight spaces between your teeth. To get the most out of your flossing, ask Drs. Walker, Drumhiller, Goll and O'Connor for a quick demonstration on proper technique. Education is key to a healthy mouth.

Preventative dentistry is designed to help you avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel loss, and secondary problems linked to poor oral health.

Restorative Dentistry

When preventative dentistry is not enough, we offer restorative treatment to return your smile to a healthy state. During your visit, Drs. Walker, Drumhiller, Goll and O'Connor will diagnose your oral health condition, and determine the right course of action.

There have been many advancements in recent years that have enhanced the effectiveness of treatment, as well as esthetics. Most restorations we perform allow us to use esthetically-pleasing materials that blend perfectly with the rest of your smile. There are four primary types of dental materials we can use to restore your teeth: porcelain, composite resin, dental amalgam, and gold. Conspicuous materials like dental amalgam and gold, are typically used for your posterior teeth that require stronger restorations.

Most patients will need restorative treatment at some point. It is important to handle issues before they lead to more severe complications. If gum disease or decay is left untreated, you may eventually experience tooth loss. We offer some restorative treatments to prevent tooth loss:

•  Dental fillings - cleaning out and sealing off areas that have experienced decay.
•  Dental Crowns - tooth-shaped caps that protect a tooth with significant decay.
•  Root Canal therapy - the removal of the pulpy substance that contains nerve endings. This can eliminate pain and save a tooth from extraction.

Sometimes, tooth extraction is the only way to restore your mouth to a healthy state. In this case, we offer tooth replacement options to aid with the function and cosmetics of your smile.
